an explosive town hall meeting tonight in richmond. >> it doesn't matter what they say and what they're going to do! it's about just thinking one of us would have died! >> the aftermath of the chevron refinery fire. people complaining of breathing problems and more. >> my throat has been raspy all night. >> gas prices going up, and hundreds of lawsuits in the pipeline for chevron. >> anger broiling over in richmond. the crowd at the town hall meeting with chevron

yelling and heckling the panel. kron four's kate tompson is live. >> reporter: the crowd in richmond, absolutely furious here tonight, and really letting the panel have it. it didn't help any when the panel abruptly ended the meeting after telling everyone that it would stay all night to answer questions. when the meeting was cut off, the crowd yelled. a police line was formed to protect them. >> reporter: hundreds of people turned out to the meeting. the crowd heckling and booing county and chevron officials from the start. many people unleashing their anger on the panel and giving them a piece of their mind. [ crowd noise ] [ cheering and applause ] >> reporter: several time, the general manager of the refinery was barrel able to respond.

>> part of that safety is not only taking care of our employees but taking care of the community. for last night's incident, i take responsibility. >> reporter: people were questioning why it took chevron ten minutes to push the emergency button after the fire that alerts emergency personnel. >> it took us approximately ten minutes to push that button. could we have done it faster? i think maybe, but it is difficult for us as well in a situation like this to react quickly to get it out. >> reporter: chevron also announced they'll be trying to make people financially hole. people in the community can submit claims either for health problems or property damage due to the fire. >> as you saw in that report, hundreds of outraged residents voiced their frustration, anger, and fear over health cashes because of the fire.

they shouted down the chevron manager and the officials. >> you don't know how it is when you have to fight for your breath. i'm here for my lord and savior. you have to understand what i'm saying, why i'm thanking god. but you people got to understand, that you bring this poison out here, killing us, you're all criminals! your corporation is a criminal corporation! you guys are an environmental criminal corporation, and you guys pollute our community and don't even have a richmond resident to work in your refinery! and we the community of richmond are fed up! >> in 1992 when chevron blew up, she was just a baby. now he's got a mass on her liver, and they don't know where it came from. she don't smoke, she don't drink, she's 19.

>> you talk about -- how in the world can i sell this? how long can i hold my breath? we should be angry! >> get out of here! >> bay area air quality officials released test results tonight of the samples taken throughout the day. their findings show levels for potential toxic pollutants do not pose a health hazard and are well below state and federal regulations. the samples were taken from local air quality monitors. and the regional board reviewed mrnlts near the chevron -- monitors near the chevron facility which showed normal concentration of pollutants from the fire. air quality officials say the weather conditions at the time of the fire helped push the smoky air up and out of the area. along with the hundreds of people flocking to the hospital,

hundreds also lined up at law offices. of one law office says it's already received 1,000 chevron fire injury claims. residents who say they have been suffering from breathing problems. >> my throat has been raspy all night. i told the residents in my house, kid sxgs grand kid, we were -- kids, we were all sick. knowing what it can do to you in long-term. >> there's a lot of kids that have asthma, people with oxygen machine asks stuff like that. >> law offices in the area expect to have long lines again tomorrow. all of this is having a much broader effect on everybody in the bay area and california as well and on your pocketbooks. there's already talk that the refinery fire is causing california's gas prices to go up. drivers in the golden state already pay some of the highest prices in the nation.

charles clifford talked to people filling up today. >> reporter: in elserrito, drivers -- el serrito, were faced to play higher place prices at the pump. the price went up faeb cents in just -- $0.15 in just the last 24 hours. >> definitely, with no doubt. i know from my experience it would affect it right away. >> reporter: perry slaten wasn't very happen about it. >> i won't be able to get my truck filled. >> reporter: he thought it would affect prices but not like this. >> i figured maybe a week or maybe even a month. but overnight, that's crazy! >> reporter: prices will probably keep climbing. >> i think it will go more. but we try to control the price under $4, make the keraccept the price and -- the customer accept

east palo alto police are looking for two people who forced their way into a home run this morning and beat and shot someone inside. that attack happened about 9:30 in the

1000-block of wheat street. the victim is in stable condition tonight. a website saw the suspects -- a witness saw the suspects take off in an early 2000s brown nissan altima. after being held captive for 18 years, dugard is ask -- he was on parole at the time after serving 11 years on a 50 year sentence. now dugard is suing the federal government alleging that parole officers are probably to blame for her captivity. her attorneys say justice department lawyers unfair a former chair of the commissioner not to serve as a witness on her behalf. here in the weather center, we're talking about a mini-heat

a massive fire damages half

a dozen businesses on ocean avenue. a bakery and several businesses were engulfed in the flames. this blaze was extremely difficult to fight. >> as he opened up that door, something violent took place, an explosion, backdraft took place. as we were trained to be down on our knee, all the engines went up over the top of them. and the first thought that went through my mind was i've got a multicasualty situation i'm going to be dealing with her beside the fire. it's fabulous that only minor injuries were a result of what occurred. >> no one was in the building at the time the fire broke out. it all started in one building and then spread. san francisco police are

defending their decision to shoot an armed man last saturday in the bay view district. police say as they chased brian cooper, they noticed he had a handgun. he refused to stop, they say, but eventually fell. that's when police say he started turning toward one the n at him. that's when police fired. the shooting say they was justified. cooper's family who attended a community meeting on the incident this morning still had questions for the chief. >> if a person is running, you're not supposed to shoot at him. why did they shoot him three times? he did not shoot at them. why did they shoot him three times? >> i know that he was hit three times. he was hit in the foot, in the lower leg, and in the lower back, consistent with turning. he was not running at the time. we do not shoot fleeing felons in the san francisco police department. he had fallen to the ground,
